Light, Balance, Peel: The October Med Spa Specials I’d Actually Book

October Med Spa Specials flyer, Renew Restore Revive promotions at The Med Spa at Southwest Plastic Surgery East and West, El Paso Texas, Frank Agullo MD FACS

October in El Paso is the month I start telling patients to fix what the summer did.

The sun is lower. The heat is finally backing off. And the brown spots, the redness and the dull texture from June through September are all still sitting on your face.

So the October board is built for repair. Light. Balance. Peel.

Renew. BBL BroadBand Light, $700 for a Package of 3.

First, the name. At the Med Spa, BBL means BroadBand Light. It is a light-based photofacial. It is not the Brazilian butt lift, and nobody is getting one of those for $700.

BroadBand Light goes after color in the skin: sun spots, freckling, blotchy brown, and the redness and small vessels that make a face look flushed. Treated spots usually darken for a few days and then flake off.

Three sessions is the package, $700 for all three. That is how this works best, in a series.

One honest caveat, because it matters here. Light and laser carry more pigment risk in darker skin types, so settings and candidacy are a real conversation. Most of our patients are skin types three to six, and we plan around that every time.

Restore. Boo-Tiful Facial Balancing, $3,650.

Yes, the name is a Halloween joke. The treatment is serious.

This is upper face toxin plus dermal filler, planned together as one treatment instead of two separate purchases. Toxin quiets the lines that come from movement. Filler puts back structure where volume has gone.

The product choice is at our nurse injector’s discretion. That is on purpose. She looks at your face and decides what goes where, instead of you picking a syringe count off a menu.

Revive. TCA SkinCeuticals Corrective Peel, 20% Off.

I like peels, and I say so.

“I think that peels are great. They do a great job with fine lines and wrinkles and some pigmentation changes, and they do create a refreshment in the face.”

We only do light to medium peels here, and I am clear about why. “Most of our patients are in the higher Fitzpatrick scale, skin types ranging from three, four, five, and six.” Deeper peels in those skin types carry too much risk of the skin going lighter or darker.

So set your expectations to match. “It will not treat severe wrinkles. Although it will improve them somewhat, we do have better options for those patients.”

And October is the right month for it, because aftercare is mostly about the sun. “After a light to moderate peel, there is strict no sun exposure for the first four weeks.” One more thing patients miss: “Melasma can come back with heat, not just direct sun exposure.” That means hot yoga too.

The End of Anti-Aging: What Skin Longevity Actually Asks of You

Black and white still life of skincare bottles beside a running watch and a glass of water on a stone counter. Commentary on skin longevity by Dr. Frank Agullo, MD, FACS.

Nobody asks me to make them look 25 anymore; it used to come in weekly. Now my patients wear Apple Watches and pull their lab results up on their phones to ask, “How do I keep the face I have going for the next 30 years?” And we as an industry are starting to listen. NewBeauty Magazine devoted a substantial part of its Summer 2026 issue to it. No one talks of “anti-aging” anymore; “longevity” replaces it. From where I sit, having spent 20 years watching every beauty cycle come and go, it is the first rebrand in which the science is legit.

From Life Span to Health Span

Longevity did not start with skin; it started in medicine, with moving the success goal from life span (life) to health span (life years healthy, fit and able). Aging is not one thing, but a multitude of pathways (mitochondrial failure, inflammation, bad metabolic processes, cellular damage repair). Skin is simply where you see these reflected in the mirror. Instead of waiting for something to happen so that we can fix it, this represents a huge positive change that I have been trying to carry out in my office, in the operating room for 20 years: preservation, not intervention. Less correction. My whole facelift practice was built on preserving youth and it feels great that this is a principle skincare is picking up.

What Skin Longevity Actually Means

Behind all of the pretty packaging, there are only four jobs for skin longevity. Preserve collagen and elastin. Protect barrier function. Ensure consistent skin turnover. Minimize environmental exposure (ultraviolet light, aka photoaging) to avoid unnecessary damage. None of this is glamorous. All of it is measurable. And age spares nobody, collagen production slows after 20, women lose 25 to 30 percent of skin’s collagen in the first 5 years after menopause, not during their lifetimes, just five years.

The Anti-Aging Mindset The Longevity Mindset
Erase the wrinkle Protect the scaffolding that prevents it
Start at 45, when damage shows Start in your 20s and 30s, before it does
One dramatic correction Small, boring, consistent maintenance
Products promise reversal Products support repair and defense
Aging is the enemy Aging is the plan; decline is optional

The Foundation Nobody Wants to Hear About

Supplement sellers do not generally want you to see this next part, because the top ways to achieve it for your skin, and really, your health, are free. Adequate protein (women often do not get enough protein), strength training to preserve and build bone and muscle mass, getting quality sleep and stable blood sugar are key because sugar and insulin spur glycation, cross-linking and stiffening the collagen that you are trying to keep. Morning sunscreen, in El Paso, it outperforms any serum I have ever sold. NAD+ IV drips, cold plunges and other “exotic” peptides can assist, but they are only the cherry on top of a pie baked from good nutrition, exercise, sleep and sun protection. We see too many patients who pay thousands for IV infusions but skimp on sunscreen and sleep, because they did not see that free and cheap routines do all of the hard lifting for our skin’s longevity. I sound as if I am saying the obvious, but it simply goes ignored by most. Expensive delay tactics.

The Shelf in My Office

Once these are established, topicals play an essential role. In my practice, I only keep two lines backed by legitimate science: Alastin and SkinCeuticals. Both companies believe in advancing the skin and are not peddling miracle creams. In the morning, an antioxidant with a mineral sunscreen. SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic is a potent antioxidant serum that uses the blend of Vitamins C, E and ferulic acid to blunt oxidation throughout the day caused by pollution and the sun. Over that is my Alastin HydraTint Pro Mineral SPF 36, a tinted mineral sunscreen patients will enjoy wearing daily (and that is the whole ball game), protecting the skin. In the evening, the skin message needs to be to rebuild. Retinoids are still the benchmark for stimulating new collagen in skincare. SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.5 is a safe and easy entry point, followed by Alastin Restorative Skin Complex. Using TriHex technology, it tells the skin to rid aged, damaged proteins and produce new collagen and elastin. This clearing of aged protein damage is how you prepare the body to build, which is thinking toward longevity. SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Interrupter Advanced is for patients concerned about a lot of collagen destruction and glycation. When undergoing any sort of procedure, I prepare patients before their treatments and help soothe the skin post procedure with Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar. That is 6 products total, not 16 products to apply at different times of day. Consistency wins this longevity war. It is not a shopping trip; it is action.

Where the Office Comes In

At the office, topicals protect and procedures build new collagen. Patients desiring building, rather than protecting, will receive treatments including biostimulators such as Sculptra, radiofrequency microneedling and lasers to resurface skin. I like to treat these issues lightly and early, not heavily at the end of their rope. Regular treatments help maintain good quality skin over waiting until 60 for something dramatic. However, when discussing volume and descent, no amount of skin treatment will address volume deficit; that is a surgeon’s conversation. And if they do not make that clear to you in an office, they probably are not telling you the honest truth.

Why Listen to Me

I did my plastic surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and serve as a Clinical Associate Professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Castle Connolly recognized me as one of its Top Doctors for the past 13 years consecutively and I am double board certified, by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. I have spent my entire career on the preservation side of this debate, which translates into how I approach my surgical procedures as well as the medical-grade skincare regimens that I handpick. Longevity is not a product; it is a practice of protecting what you have got, of aiding the body to do the work that it was intended to do and of identifying problems early and correcting them gently. Your 70-year-old face is now in progress and it begins with your first appointment at my office.
